383 Project

From developing iphone shopping apps and overhauling hotel websites to designing the interior of a burger bar and the BBC’s White City offices, 383 Project has a wide skills set.

383 Project

The full service agency, based in a beautiful grade II listed building in the heart of Birmingham, splits its disciplines broadly in to branding, print, new media and interior design.

One of its recent interior design projects is the redesign of the BBC’s White City offices in London. Historically the building had been poorly zoned, navigable only by numbered corridors and undefined zones. 383 Project developed an entirely new scheme which addressed the practical implications of navigating the building, whilst also embracing elements of the BBC’s brand and heritage.

An interactive installation for the reception area was produced to tie the overall branding scheme together, improving the guests connection with the space as soon as they entered. The entire building was rezoned into colour coded areas to ensure easier navigation.

But it’s not just interiors which 383 Project helps people to navigate. Easy to use and effective web design is another one of its strengths. For BDL Hotels, one of the UK’s largest hotel operators behind Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza and Ramada Encore, 383 Project were commissioned to redevelop the entire BDL hotel portfolio. And they had less than nine months in which to design 30 websites.

Each site needed to run off an easy to manage CMS providing different author privileges whilst also handling aggregated content from other sister hotel sites. As well as being accessible, search engine-friendly and standards-compliant the sites also included a booking engine, weather report, currency convertor and integrated route planner. An additional 30 hotels will use the new design in the next 18 months.

383 Project is also recognised as an expert in retail as Creative Director John Newbold explains: ““A lot of our work within the West Midlands centres around marketing the huge retail offer. There's a lot to shout about to attract visitors in to the city and so our main area of interest is how as an agency we can ensure that we are marketing the retail offer effectively. Last year we launched the Midlands’ first way-finding and shopping iPhone app for Retail Birmingham. Having clients within the region who see the value in adopting new creative such as this is always exciting, and so we're looking forward to seeing this trend increase next year.

“I strongly believe that the West Midlands is one of the most innovative sectors in terms of digital creative -anywhere in the country. We are neighbours to a number of excellent smaller agencies doing fantastic work across a variety of sectors. The trend for innovation is catalysed by larger organisations who both contribute greatly to the digital economy of the region, both by commissioning projects in the sector, and linking us in with other regions to ensure there is still collaboration across a national and international platform.”
